I-20 PERMIAN BASIN CORRIDOR PLAN

I-20 is an important east-west connection for travel and trade in West Texas. As the interstate system ages. It becomes necessary to assess current safety and capacity needs and plan for the modernization of the corridor throughout the Permian Basin.

Since 2015 the MPO has been part of a TxDOT funded study focusing on evaluating the current safety and capacity needs along the approximate 40-mile stretch in the Midland-Odessa area, specifically within the boundaries of the Permian Basin Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). Ultimately, a corridor improvement plan will be based on a needs assessment including technical items such as traffic forecasts, safety data and design deficiencies, as well as input gathered at stakeholder and public meetings.
